I don’t know about you, but I’m absolutely thrilled that in a few hours the Twenties will be back!!!!!
When I fell in love with the 1920s, more than ten years ago, it didn’t occur to me that the Twenties would be back in a relatively short time.
It was something else that fascinated me. So much of the 1920s resonates with our own time. Besides, the 1920s were a time of transition and change, and I do believe the 2020s will be too. Change was the characteristic of the 1920s, what shaped their biggest fears and excitement, and what ultimately was passed down to the later decades.
I often wonder what the 2020s will look like and what it si that we’ll leave to the next decades and generations. The 1920s were ripe with advancements and evolutions that WWII stopped and snuffed and were taken up only decades later.
I do believe the 2020s will be a time of change – and therefor fear and excitement. The sense of decadence and imminent end that was part of the 1920s feeling actually ushered a far brighter time, once the war was over. I hope that same feeling of the end that we have too will open up in a bright new world.
Let’s celebrate the return of the Twenties!
This is how they celebrated the new year in the 1920s and how they welcomed the new decade, one hundred years ago. Can’t say they didn’t know how to party!
But let’s also remember that in 1920, the Great War had ended only two years previous.
We often remember the 1920s as a time of wild enjoyment and exploration. Let’s not forget that is was also a time of fears and sorrow and fighting for a future that seems far away and alien.
